Winter Art Market
60 artists, who have previously throughout 10 years exhibited in Gumbostrand, have been invited to exhibit in their holiday Winter Art Market. I cannot stress enough how beautiful this gallery is and such an open space. They are turning 10 years now, seems like just yesterday I was one of the first to exhibit in their opening exhibit.
-Opening is on the 30.11.2022 at 18.00-

Today (18.11.2017) is the final concert of the Lied Competition at 18.50.  I am excited to hear from amazing performers the next generation of Lied composers.  This has been a very exciting and interesting journey having my artwork implemented into such an event.
The concert will be streaming live online for all to see and hear and enjoy!

Sävelten Sävyt – Shades of Music Solo Exhibition

Untitled

Shades of Music”
Homage to Yrjö Kilpinen from his granddaughter Sophie Schubakoff.
Finland 100 year celebration.

“Shades of Music” is the fruition of my desire to unite Art and Music as the two elements of my passion that have been always present throughout my life. My roots are in Finland and now I have found a way to join all three together in a way that is deeply personal, exciting, and serendipitous.
This year 350 of Yrjö Kilpinen’s lost Lieds have been re-discovered, 25 of which have been released by the Kilpinen Society for his 125th anniversary, Finland’s 100th anniversary and the flag song “Lippulaulu”.
In collaboration with the “Uusia Lauluja” CD, this was an opportunity to explore these Lieds that haven’t been heard in decades. This was the moment to interpret and re-invigorate these compositions with my contemporary signature style of painting. As Yrjö Kilpinen arranged poetry into his music, I have aspired to follow his method, by arranging his Lieds into my paintings. This series is intertwined with a personal exploration of my roots to get to know my grandfather through his musical legacy, which is all that is left of him.  I hope to share a deeper connection through creation, between him and I, his sound and my vision.
Each painting is paired with a forgotten Lied that was its source of inspiration. Unlike a conventional exhibition, I want the participant to sense these combined visual/musical shades in an environment that is timeless and intimate.

I had the honor of collaborating with the Yrjö Kilpinen Society with my artwork, a portrait of my grandfather.  I am so glad to be able to contribute to his legacy and I hope that this is the start to working together.  The songs on this CD have opened up my eyes to new imagery for my paintings to come. There are some amazing gems to tickle your ears!

A photograph taken from the opening concert of Savonlinna Summer Music Academy.  The performers: Hedvig Paulig, Jaakko Kortekangas, Kristian Attila, Jenni Lättilä, Jouni Kokora, and Kirill Kozlovski performed the cd release concert.  For the last song of the concert the whole audience sang together for Yrjö Kilpinen’s school tradition.

LIED-Sävellyskilpailu 2017 Logo!

Today Lied-Sävellyskilpailu will be published on Yle Radio 1 where my painting is their logo!

My painting “Ääniaallot” has been chosen to be used as their logo and I am so happy about this.  It is a tribute to my grandfather Yrjö Kilpinen and it makes me excited to hear all the beautiful music that my painting may inspire.  Good luck to the contestants and soon we will hear their masterpieces!
